Patharpunj wettest place in India this monsoon season |
This monsoon season Patharpunj is the wettest place in India Not Cherrapunji. A remote place in western ghats suddenly comes into Map of India due to heavy rainfall this monsoon season as it got nearly 9500 mm rainfall. Still monsoon season is not completely over.
This place is situated in Satara district of Maharashtra on backwaters of koyana dam.
Situated in western ghats it is a hamlet of nearly 600 people.
Warana river a tributary of Krishna river originates from here.
Patharpunj is located in the core zone of Chandoli Tiger Project and it is likely to be relocated in near future.
Rainfall Figures :
- Between 1 June 2019 and 24 August 2019 Patharpunj got most of rainfall nearly 7359 mm. At same time cherrapunji got 5938 mm rainfall.
- Till 20 September it got around 9500 mm rainfall. Still monsoon is not over. At same time cherrapunji got 6082 mm rainfall.
- Interestingly out of 5 wettest places in India 4 comes from satara district of Maharashtra.
- Out of 15 wettest district in India 8 comes from Maharashtra and Goa.
- Many places in western Maharashtra overtaken cherrapunji in amount of rainfall.

- Presence of strong Monsoon System over western ghats
- The moist Air which comes from Arebnian sea when comes in contact with slopes of western ghats get lifted creating Huge convergence zone causing huge cloud mass resulted in heavy rainfall over region.
