ASEAN is a Association Of  Southeast Asian Nations formed to accelerate
economic growth ,social progress and cultural development.Aimed to
  promote the regional peace and stability.

ASEAN was established in August 1967 in Bangkok ,Thailand after singing of
Bangkok Declaration which represents rationale of establishment and modus
operandi.
ASEAN have 3 percent of world area and have 8.8 percent world population
resides in it.

ASEAN have official observer status of United Nations.

Foundation : 8 August 1967

Secretariat : Jakarta , Indonesia

Motto : One Vision , One Identity , One Community

Founding members :

Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines,

Singapore and Thailand

Members :  10 countries

Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines,

Singapore, Thailand , Brunei

Vietnam , Laos , Myanmar , Cambodia

Observer Countries : Papua New Guinea, Timor leste.



Aim and Purpose :

1. To Accelerate the economic growth, Social progress and Cultural development in spirit of equality and partnership.

2. To Promote regional peace and stability

3. To promote South Asian Studies

4. To promote active collaboration and  assistance on issues of common interest in economics,social,cultural, technical and scientific fields.

5. To provide assistance to each other in the field of training and research in the educational, professional, technical and administrative fields.

6. To collaborate more effectively for the greater utilization of their agriculture and industries.

7. The expansion of their trade, improvement of their transportation and communications facilities and the raising of the living standards of their people.

8. To maintain close and beneficial cooperation with existing international and regional organisations with similar aims and purposes, and explore all avenues for even closer cooperation among themselves.

Principles :

  Member States have adopted principles, as signed in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) of 1976

 1. Mutual respect for the independence, sovereignty, equality, territorial integrity, and national identity of all nations.

 2.The right of every State to lead its national existence free from external interference, subversion or coercion
.
3. Non-interference in the internal affairs of one another.

4. Settlement of differences or disputes by peaceful manner.

5. Renunciation of the threat or use of force.

6. Effective cooperation among themselves.

INDIA -ASEAN Trade  Economic realations

India and ASEAN :

ASEAN plays important role in India's development and foreign policy to enhance 
partnership with east Asian countries India adopted Look East policy in 1992.
in 2014 changed Act East policy with Objective to promote economic cooperation, 
cultural ties and develop strategic relationship with countries in the Asia-Pacific
region through continuous engagement.

it will  provide enhanced connectivity to the States of North Eastern Region of India with neighborhood countries.

To enhance ties further India invited Head of States of ASEAN countries for 2018 
republic day parade.
India and ASEAN signed free trade agreement in 2009 which comes into effect
from 2015.




Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) :

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is a proposed freetrade agreement (FTA) between member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and six partner countries including China, Japan, South-Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India.

The pact will drop tariffs and duties between the members so that goods and
services can flow freely between them.
Once agreed  the RCEP  will become  world’s biggest free trade pacts as it account
for a little less than half of the world’s population and about a third of the world’s
GDP. Trade between RCEP countries also makes up a little more than a quarter of
global trade.
negotiations for RCEP was Begin 2012 but due to disagreement on certain issues
delayed it further.

East Asia Summit :

East Asia Summit is forum of 18 countries from Asia-pacific region for strategic
dialogue and cooperation social ,political ,economic and security issues of region.
EAS is initiative of ASEAN which is forum to discuss issues of common interest
and concerns.
1st East Asia Summit was held in 2005 at Malaysia.
EAS always held immediately after ASEAN summit.
members : ASEAN , India,Australia,china,japan,south Korea,new Zeland, Russia                  and America.

Priority areas :

There are six priority areas of regional cooperation within the framework of the
 EAS. Environment and Energy, Education, Finance, Global Health Issues and
 Pandemic Diseases, Natural Disaster Management, and ASEAN Connectivity.

ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) :

ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) was setup in1993 and The inaugural meeting of
the ARF was held in Bangkok on 25 July 1994.
Formed with aim of regional security cooperation and dialogue between asean and
dialogue partners.

Objective :

1. To foster constructive dialogue and consultation on political and security issues of common interest and concern.

2. To make significant contributions to efforts towards confidence-building and preventive diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region.


Members : ASEAN and 10 Dialogue partners including India.
